He didn’t defend the medical marijuana patients like he promised, and lies about why he can’t help.

Last Thursday, a journalist had reported on Obama’s response to a question during a Rolling Stone interview on why his administration is cracking down on medical marijuana. Here is what he said:

“I can’t nullify congressional law. I can’t ask the Justice Department to say, ‘Ignore completely a federal law that’s on the books.’ What I can say is, ‘Use your prosecutorial discretion and properly prioritize your resources to go after things that are really doing folks damage.’ As a consequence, there haven’t been prosecutions of users of marijuana for medical purposes.”

US Attorney General Eric Holder

The Huffington Post reported a comment by Attorney General Holder that everyone who supports medical marijuana needs to hear:

“Attorney General Eric Holder was a guest of The Huffington Post at the correspondents’ dinner. Before it began, a HuffPost reporter noted to Holder that Obama’s reference to “congressional law” was misleading because the executive branch could simply remove marijuana from its “schedule one” designation, thereby recognizing its medical use. ”That’s right,” Holder said. After Kimmel’s speech, a Holder deputy told HuffPost that there was no coordinated war on medical marijuana, but that some individual clinics were breaking both state and federal laws.”

Did I read that correctly? Did our Attorney General admit that Obama could stop the war raging over medical marijuana at any moment, and that Obama’s comments to the contrary in Rolling Stone were misleading? Folks, the time is now to demand that President Obama immediately direct Attorney General Eric Holder to reclassify cannabis, or that Attorney General Holder do it himself as the Controlled Substance Act allows. All of the excuses about the FDA, Congress, and the Institute of Medicine are smokescreens. Obama or Holder could end the war on medical marijuana at any moment. We’re talking about an action that over 70 percent of Americans support. What are you two waiting for? Just push the button already. AG Holder: roll yourself a fatty, walk into the Oval Office, light that sucker, pass it to Obama and ask him,”Are you in?”

Here is an excerpt from Section 811 of The Controlled Substance Act where the Attorney General’s authority to reclassify or remove drugs under the CSA is defined:

Section 811. Authority and Criteria for Classification of Substances

(a) Rules and regulations of Attorney General; hearing

The Attorney General shall apply the provisions of this subchapter to the controlled substances listed in the schedules established by section 812 of this title and to any other drug or other substance added to such schedules under this subchapter. Except as provided in subsections (d) and (e) of this section, the Attorney General may by rule

(1) add to such a schedule or transfer between such schedules any drug or other substance if he–

(A) finds that such drug or other substance has a potential for abuse, and

(B) makes with respect to such drug or other substance the findings prescribed by

[[Page 381]]

subsection (b) of section 812 of this title for the schedule in which such drug is to be placed; or

(2) remove any drug or other substance from the schedules if he finds that the drug or other substance does not meet the requirements for inclusion in any schedule.

Didn’t some post a picture of themselves holding a sign that said “I’m in because Obama is the opposite of Bush”…?
I hate to break it to that sadly delusional soul, but not only is Obama in the exact same step as George W. Bush, he is in effect one upping him in almost all areas and in less time.
More military actions, more drone strikes, more police state powers, added NDAA, added CISPA, while still waging the costly, noneffective and racist war on drugs, subtly blocking gay marriage, and continued hard-line policy on immigrants. Not to mention the over board antics of Home Land Security and the TSA.
So if anything, Obama is the reincarnated George W. Bush from hell. Not the opposite of him.

self-ownership:

It’s bad enough when the leader of a country has the authority to indefinitely detain citizens within its own borders.

But I live in a nation where people go on the internet and call that leader cute and adorable.

Sure, I understand he gets scrutinized and demonized on a far higher level than probably any President we’ve ever had to date—but guess what? That’s what happens when you run on a campaign of “Change.” People expect…well, change.

Even though there is a pretty significant gap between promises broken and promises kept, it’s kind of hard to ignore the fact that some of the broken promises are actually very, very significant matters that mean a lot to thousands, if not millions of people. In addition, although some of the promises here seem almost impossible to keep at this point with the state of the economy and congressional grid-lock…let’s not forget that many of these promises could have been kept simply through an executive order.

What’s going on Mr. President? What’s going on?

Obama Approves Escalating Drone Strikes in Yemen , With Added Bonus of Allowing Targeting Killings of Unknown Victims

julyyjuly:

The United States has begun launching drone strikes against suspected al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen under new authority approved by President Obama that allows the CIA and the military to fire even when the identity of those who could be killed is not known, U.S. officials said… .

The decision to give the CIA and the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) greater leeway is almost certain to escalate a drone campaign that has accelerated significantly this year, with at least nine strikes in under four months. The number is about equal to the sum of airstrikes all last year… .

Congressional officials have expressed concern that using signature strikes would raise the likelihood of killing militants who are not involved in plots against the United States, angering Yemeni tribes and potentially creating a new crop of al-Qaeda recruits…

Gregory Johnsen, a Yemen expert at Princeton University, has questioned … the wisdom of the expanded drone operations… . ”I would argue that U.S. missile strike[s] are actually one of the major — not the only, but a major — factor in AQAP’s growing strength.”

Great Commentary from Greenwald:

As usual, to the extent that most Democrats mention any of this, it will be to celebrate its political value: how it proves that Obama is so very Tough and Strong on national security. Because nothing exudes Strength — or the values of the Nobel Peace Prize — like continuously escalating secret wars and targeting people for death via remote-controlled aircraft from thousands of miles away without even knowing their names. The innocent corpses, the trampling on accountability and transparency, the ongoing fueling of Endless War, must not be permitted to interfere with the President’s re-election, so all of this is just best ignored, again.Dead Yemenis will be kept out of sight and out of mind, and on those rare occasions when we hear about them, we’ll just tell ourselves that the President is a Good, Magnanimous Man who just wants to Keep us Safe.

I’m sorry, I don’t care what a cool guy you think Obama is, this is a disgusting policy and should not be tolerated under any president.

A speech President Obama gave as a senator…

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ‘s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ‘s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

– Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

So… uhm… Yeah… What happened to that man and worrying about debt. Instead he raises the debt and stagnates the economy

Because Obama signed the NDAA “with reservations”

I don’t want a president who signs unconstitutional things, at all. But signing something you know is unconstitutional and have previously promised not to sign, is even worse. I don’t care if you signed it “with reservations.” I want a president who doesn’t tell me bald-faced lies.
